Bookshelf Will Not Launch

If VitalSource Bookshelf will not launch, please locate the set of instructions for your Operating system to resolve your issue.

Bookshelf Will Not Launch - Windows XP SP2
Steps to resolve Bookshelf not launching in Windows XP SP2.
  • Restart your computer and try to launch Bookshelf. If Bookshelf does not launch continue.
  • Go to your My Documents folder and locate the My Books folder. (C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\My Documents\My Books)
  • Once you have located the My Books folder, rename it to be My Books Old
  • Launch VitalSource Bookshelf.
  • Bookshelf should launch. Once Launched click the Sign-In button and sign in with your email address and password.
  • Once signed in, go to the File Menu and choose the Restore from Backup... menu option.
  • Go to the following file: C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\My Documents\My Books Old\VitalSource Bookshelf\User Data\Notes.db This will restore your notes and highlights.
  • Once your Notes and Highlights have been restored you can delete the My Books Old folder.

Bookshelf Will Not Launch - Windows Vista/7
Steps to resolve Bookshelf not launching in Windows Vista/7.
  • Restart your computer and try to launch Bookshelf. If Bookshelf does not launch continue.
  • Go to your Documents folder and locate the My Books folder. (Computer\Local Disk (C:)\Users\YourUserAccount\Documents\My Books)
  • Once you have located the My Books folder, rename it to be My Books Old
  • Launch VitalSource Bookshelf.
  • Bookshelf should launch. Once Launched click the Sign-In button and sign in with your email address and password.
  • Once signed in, go to the File Menu and choose the Restore from Backup... menu option.
  • Go to the following file: Computer\Local Disk (C:)\Users\YourUserAccount\Documents\My Books Old\VitalSource Bookshelf\User Data\Notes.db This will restore your notes and highlights.
  • Once your Notes and Highlights have been restored you can delete the My Books Old folder.

Bookshelf Will Not Launch - Mac OS 10.4 or Later
Steps to resolve Bookshelf not launching in Mac OS 10.4 or Later
  • Restart your computer and try to launch Bookshelf. If Bookshelf does not launch continue.
  • Go to your Documents folder and locate the Books folder. (Macintosh HD\Users\YourUserAccount\Documents\)
  • Once you have located the Books folder, rename it to be Books Old
  • Now go to your Users Accounts Preference folder and delete the com.vitalsource.bookshelf.plist preference file. (Macintosh HD\Users\YourUserAccount\Library\Preferences\)
  • Launch VitalSource Bookshelf.
  • Bookshelf should launch. Once Launched click the Sign-In button and sign in with your email address and password.
  • Once signed in, go to the File Menu and choose the Restore from Backup... menu option.
  • Go to the following file: Macintosh HD\Users\YourUserAccount\Documents\Books Old\VitalSource Bookshelf\User Data\Notes.db This will restore your notes and highlights.
  • Once your Notes and Highlights have been restored you can delete the Books Old folder.
