Bookshelf 5.2.3 Release notes for Windows
Bookshelf 5.2.3 Release Notes
(also applies to the Coursesmart and Evolve eBooks release)
New Feature (primarily as a support option)
New option in general preferences and application configuration to force software only rendering.
Software only rendering is useful in two cases. It may provide better performance for machines with low end graphics chip sets. It can be used to determine if a crash (or possibly other odd UI behavior) is related to the graphics driver on the system. Updating the graphics driver to the most current version may correct a crash related to hardware accelleration.
Software only rendering can be set in the application configuration file using the key “SoftwareRendering” with the value of “YES”. This method is useful if the suspected problem for a crash is related to the graphics driver and causes the app to crash before the preferences dialog can be used to change the setting. If set in the application configuration file, the preferences dialog option will be disabled but will show if software only rendering is set or not.
Software only rendering will affect any new window that is opened once it is set in the preferences dialog. The app should be restarted to ensure it applies to all windows.
Bug Fixes
- Bugfix for a timing related crash on disposal for the MAutocompleteJob in the book window. This was the most common crash report for 5.2.2.
- Additional error handling in processing start up args. This was the second most common crash report for 5.2.2.
- Bugfix to show the branded store name in the store button.
- Sanity check the height and width of the rendering area before delegating the render to xplat code. Change based on crash report feedback.
- Bugfix for an intermittent crash on exit resulting in the Microsoft Crash Dialog. Root cause was the potential for some cross platform code to try to notify managed code after the managed code had unloaded.
- VSTBS-2105 - Bugfix for a misleading message when a user selected custom folder is missing or not writable.
- VSTBS-2106 - Bugfix for color preferences initialization.
- VSTBS-2107 - Bugfix for color preferences change notification.
- Assorted stability changes based on the less frequent 5.2.2 crash reports.
- VSTBS-2109 - Disable the “Go to hard copy page” menu item for books that don’t support hard copy page numbers.
