About Machine Activation Limits
VitalSource Bookshelf allows for two computers and mobile devices activated at any given one time on your account. If you are activating a new computer or mobile device, and receive the error message: "You have Reached your Machine Activation Limit" you will need to deauthorize an older computer or mobile device in order to activate a new one.
Managing Machine Activation Limits

Managing your activations from a browser:
- Go to the VitalSource Account Center
and sign in with your username and password.
- In navigation bar, click on Devices
- Find the device you wish to disable and click on the Deactivate button
- Sign into Bookshelf with your login credentials
Managing your activations from Bookshelf Desktop:
- After receiving the Activation Error message in Bookshelf, click on the Help Me resolve this error link
- Bookshelf will sign you into the VitalSource Account Center (requires Bookshelf 7.0 Mac and 7.2 Windows)
- In navigation bar, click on Devices
- Find the device you wish to disable and click on the Deactivate button
- Click on the Back to Application button
- Sign into Bookshelf with your login credentials
Managing your activations from Bookshelf for iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch:
- After receiving the Activation Error message in Bookshelf, tap on Ok in the dialog box
- Bookshelf will open a pop-up and sign you into the VitalSource Account Center
- In navigation bar, click on Devices
- Find the device you wish to disable and click on the Deactivate button
- Click on the X button in the top left of the screen to return to Bookshelf and sign-in
Managing your activations from Bookshelf for Android/Kindle Fire:
- After receiving the Activation Error message in Bookshelf, Tap on the Help button
- A new browser window will open, and Bookshelf will sign you into the VitalSource Account Center
- In navigation bar, click on Devices
- Find the device you wish to disable and click on the Deactivate button
- Toggle back to Bookshelf
- Tap the Close button to sign into Bookshelf
