Learning Objectives

Found in the Table of Contents at the Module level and at the top pages throughout the course, Learning Objectives are student-centered statements of the measurable content, media, and questions for each associated content area.

Learning Objectives help guide learning. Assessments measure learning against these objectives at the end of each module. Learning Objectives are also used in the Learning Dashboard cards to help instructors see how students are performing and learning within the course.

Formative and Summative Elements

Formative activities and assignments provide practice and feedback to students as they work through the course. Formative activities are also critical to generating data in the Learning Dashboards.

Formative activities are tagged against learning objectives, which appear on the page.

Students' performance on formative questions generates data against that learning objective.

Student data on learning objectives generates a learning estimate which appears in the Learning Dashboard for instructors.

The learning estimate is a prediction of how well a student will perform on a learning objective.

Summative assessments (checkpoints and quizzes) are assignments that assess mastery of material and provide a score in the Gradebook.

Learning Estimates

A student's performance on formative practice provides data for Learning Estimates. The Learning Estimate is a model that Acrobatiq has built to predict how well a student will do on the Learning Objective on a Summative Assessment.

For example, based on how a student answers formative questions against the Learning Objective Summarize the distribution of a categorical variable, the student's Learning Estimate will be categorized as low, medium, or high. These Learning Estimates inform which questions students receive on the adaptive Apply What You Know assignments as well as providing information on the Learning Dashboard.

Summative work is not calculated in a students Learning Estimate.

Note:  Learning Estimates are displayed on the Dashboard but are not student facing.
