Learning Objectives help guide learning. Assessments measure learning against these objectives at the end of each module. Learning Objectives are also used in the Learning Dashboard cards to help instructors see how students are performing and learning within the course.
Formative and Summative Elements
Formative activities and assignments provide practice and feedback to students as they work through the course. Formative activities are also critical to generating data in the Learning Dashboards.
Formative activities are tagged against learning objectives, which appear on the page.
Students' performance on formative questions generates data against that learning objective.
Student data on learning objectives generates a learning estimate which appears in the Learning Dashboard for instructors.
The learning estimate is a prediction of how well a student will perform on a learning objective.
Summative assessments (checkpoints and quizzes) are assignments that assess mastery of material and provide a score in the Gradebook.
