Canvas: LTI Integration and Data

What information is shared via the data exchange?

For gradebook integration, the Acrobatiq platform does not request any additional information from the learning management system (LMS). This integration solely allows Acrobatiq to send data to the LMS gradebook. No data outside of the current LTI connection is sent from the LMS to the Acrobatiq platform. Also note that access is limited by instructor approval for each course section. Instructors will be asked to authorize Acrobatiq to access their course when they first access the (Acrobatiq) course content. Acrobatiq can then access the LMS gradebooks only where the instructor has granted that access. The following lists describe the data exchange.
 

Data FROM Canvas TO Acrobatiq (via LTI connection):

  • First name of student
  • Last name of student
  • Email address of student
  • Canvas User ID of student
  • Canvas course ID

 
Data FROM Acrobatiq TO Canvas (via API connection):

  • Assessment title
  • Assessment outcome (grade)
  • Canvas User ID of student
  • Canvas course ID

 

Step 1: Add Acrobatiq as an External Tool 

  1. Navigate to Site Admin in Canvas and  
  2. Click the Apps tab 
  3. Click + App canvas_add_app.jpg
  4. Complete the Add App form using information provided by Acrobatiq Support and click Submit.Canvas_LTI_settings_copy.jpg

Step 2: Add LTI Link to Course

* This step can be performed by an LMS administrator of faculty member. 

  1. Navigate to the course in Canvas and click +Module to add a module. 
  2. From the Add Module pop up screen, enter a name for the Module and click Add Module. 
  3. Once the Module has been added, Click the "+" (plus sign) to the right of the module name. 
  4. In the Add Module pop up screen, Select External Tool from the drop down. 
  5. Select the Acrobatiq tool by clicking on it.  Next, and enter your course LTI link in the URL field.  Instructors will also have the option to have the courseware open within the LMS screen or in a new tab. Once all selections are complete, click Add Item. Canvas_faculty_setup_revised.jpg

 

NOTE: When testing this link, a Canvas account with the role of "instructor" should be used, because Acrobatiq is expecting an instructor to use the link to attach an Acrobatiq course to the Canvas class environment. An "admin" role may receive an error.
