What are Flashcards?

Flashcards are a study tool built into Bookshelf. They have a front and back, will shuffle, and allow you to notate if you know the information on the card or not.

How do I create Flashcards?

You can create Flashcards in two different ways. First, select a Highlight and use the "Create Flashcard" option or open the WorkBook, select "Flashcards," and use the "+" icon to add a Flashcard.

Next, you will add a deck name and select "Save."

You can then use the "+" icon to add cards to the deck, adding the information you would like to study.

How do I use Flashcards?

Once you have created a deck, you can use the "Study" option or select the play option from in or outside of the deck views.

Clicking/tapping on a card face will reveal the back of the card.

To go to the next card or back, you can select one of the arrows on the side of the card.

You can close the Deck by selecting the "X," Restart by selecting the circled arrow or Shuffle the Deck using the crisscrossed arrows icons.

You can keep track of what you have retained and what you still need to retained while studying the Flashcards by selecting the "I Don't know it" or "I Know it" options.

At the end of the Deck review, you will get results regarding your retention of the material.

When you go back into the Deck, you will have options for studying the previously reviewed cards when you have rated your knowledge.

Why does each of the cards in my Flashcard Deck have a different color?

You can tell if you know the material or not by the color of the left side of the Flashcard when viewed in the Deck.

Grey indicates that the Card has not been rated.   Red indicates that the Card has been rated with "I Don't know it."   Green indicates that the Card has been rated with "I Know it."

 

How do I delete or edit a Flashcard Deck or Card?

Hovering over either a Deck or a Card within a deck will give you options to delete or edit that Deck or Card.

The Trash icon will delete the Deck; the pen icon will allow the Deck Name to be edited.   The Trash icon will delete the Card; the pen will allow the Front and Back of the Card to be edited.

 

How do I move the information I highlighted and created a Flashcard from the front of the Card to the back of the Card?

You will use the following icon to move the highlighted information to the back of the card.

You can copy/paste pieces of the book to a Flashcard as well. For example, after creating the front of the Flashcard with part of the information in a section of the eTextBook, you can then copy/paste the rest to the back of the Card.

Highlight the text you need, then use the copy function in the window that pops up.

Paste that into the Back of the Card section of the Flashcard by using a right-click in the window and using your device's Paste function.

Flashcard Frequently Asked Questions:

Can Flashcards be shared?

No, sharing Flashcards is not possible; however, Highlights and Notes can be when users have the same eTextBook in their separate accounts.

Can Flashcards be printed?

No, printing of Flashcards is not possible; however, Highlights and Notes can be exported for printing.
