If you do not have a credit card or are looking to make a tax-exempt bulk purchase, you will need to place an order using a Purchase Order. If you are not an existing Purchase Order customer, you must follow the steps under the New account setup section for customers using a Purchase Order before placing an order.

 

New account setup for customers using a Purchase Order

You will need to complete our account setup process if you are a new customer; the process may take up to 1-3 business days.

  1. Access and complete the New Customer - Account Information form and please include proof of tax exemption or resale certificate (only needs to be completed once) for customers located in the following states to avoid being charged sales tax: AL, AZ, CO, CT, DC, HI, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, MN, MS, NE, NJ, NM, NC, OH, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, WA, WI, WY.
  2. Once you have completed and submitted the Account Information form, VitalSource will begin the customer account setup process. Please note that the process may take up to 1-3 business days.
  3. VitalSource will confirm via email that we have completed the customer setup process.
  4. Once you receive that email, you can begin placing your Purchase Order request by following the steps under, How do I use the Bulk Store for placing a PO request?

The Bulk Order Team's goal is to address why you reached out as quickly as possible; we cannot promise an immediate response. Email volume will impact our ability to follow up with you quickly during our business's high-traffic moments. Please note, the VitalSource Customer Support Team will not be able to assist you with Purchase Orders due to not having access to that system.

How do I use the Bulk Store for placing a PO request?

  1. To place your order, navigate to the US Bulk Order Store for International customers please see here.
  2. Search for the required digital content by author, title, or ISBN of the item(s).
  3. Once you've selected your item(s), duration and quantity, Add to Cart to proceed to check-out.
  4. After reviewing your order summary and accepting VitalSource's Terms of Purchase, you will now see the option to 'Send Purchase Order Request.'
  5. You will be prompted to Sign In to your VitalSource Bookshelf account to proceed with your request. If you are not already an existing Bookshelf user, click the link for Create an account, and follow the steps to create your Bookshelf account.
  6. Please provide your Purchase Order Number and your full company name and click "Complete PO Request."
  7. Upon completing your PO request, you will receive an email confirmation containing an itemized list of purchase(s) and information regarding access to your redemption codes.
  8. Your students can use the following article to help them activate their VitalSource eTextbook(s): How to Redeem a VitalSource Redemption Code.


Please note that your order may take up to 2-3 business days to process fully. After that, VitalSource will send an email with the confirmation containing the redemption codes to the email associated with the order submission. These codes can only be redeemed using the VitalSource Bookshelf platform.

Placing a Bulk Order via Credit Card with VitalSource

If you want to make a Bulk order (note taxes, if applicable, will apply), please visit the US Bulk Order Store or one of the appropriate International Bulk Order Stores listed here, and do the following:

  1. Search for the title you wish to purchase
  2. Choose the duration of access for the eTextbook, enter the number of codes you want to buy, and add them to your cart. Please note: Redemption Codes cannot be shared or transferred.
  3. Repeat as required for any additional eTextbook purchases
  4. Click on the Proceed to Checkout button when your order is complete.
  5. Verify your purchase, accept the Terms and Conditions of buying from the Bulk Orders Store, and click the Begin Checkout Button to purchase your eTextbooks*.
  6. Sign in to your VitalSource account, enter a valid credit card number, and complete your purchase. Note: If you do not have a VitalSource Account you will need to create one first before you can complete the purchase.
  7. Once your order is complete, you will receive an Excel (.xls) spreadsheet containing your redemption codes. The following article is available to help your students activate their VitalSource eTextbook(s): How to Redeem a VitalSource Redemption Code.

Note: You can contact the Support Team for assistance if you have issues with the Bulk Order Store that is not a Purchase Order (PO). All Purchase Order (PO) issues must reach out to bulk.orders@vitalsource.com.

If you do not have a credit card or are looking to make a tax-exempt bulk purchase, you will need to place an order using a Purchase Order through the VitalSource Bulk Storefront, this will require an account set up through the steps here. You will have full access to our complete store inventory, including all available editions, pricing, and duration options.

About Bulk Ordering with VitalSource 

We do not provide quotes; all of our publisher-set pricing can be found at the US Bulk Order Store or one of the appropriate International Bulk Order Stores listed here. You can search by title, author, and ISBN for the needed book. All prices vary depending on the rental duration required.

Instructors, Schools, Institutions, Parents, and Friends can purchase VitalSource eTextbooks individually or in Bulk with a credit card or a Purchase Order.

Students will activate their VitalSource eTextbooks via redemption code and can view their eTextbooks with VitalSource Bookshelf. Please note that once a redemption code is redeemed, we cannot refund that code; see Bulk Purchase Refund Policy.

If you are outside of Australia, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom (UK), or the United States

You will want to engage directly with the publisher of the title you are looking to purchase. They will make their content available on the VitalSource platform, and we can deliver it, in various ways, to your faculty and students.

Tax Exemption

On orders placed through the Bulk Order storefront, applicable taxes will apply.

We cannot process orders placed through the Bulk Order Store without sales tax. We cannot refund sales tax on orders placed through the Bulk Order storefront.

If you are tax-exempt, you must place your bulk order via a Purchase Order request.

 

Refund Policy

For Bulk eTextbook Purchases, you may request an immediate refund of your initial purchase of any redemption codes purchased through the VitalSource Bulk Purchase Store within 30 days of code creation. VitalSource will only refund unused redemption codes.

If you placed your Bulk Order via Credit Card, log in to your Bookshelf account, and navigate to the Account Center Transaction Section. Then, click the Refund button to activate the refund process for any purchase eligible for a refund.

If you placed your Bulk Order via Purchase Order, please contact our Bulk Order Team at bulk.orders@vitalsource.com to request a refund, and include the applicable non-redeemed codes.

 

Return Policy for Specific Trade Publishers:

For specific Trade publishers, you may request a refund of your initial purchase of any redemption codes purchased through the VitalSource Bulk Purchase Store. VitalSource will only refund unused redemption codes. The following is the publisher's refund policy on Bulk Purchase codes.

  • Penguin Random House– Refund requests must occur within seven days of the code creation date.
  • HarperCollins– Refund request must occur within two days of the code creation date
  • HarperCollins Christian- Refund request must occur within two days of the code creation date.
  • Hachette Digital- Refund requests must occur within three days of the code creation date.

 

Note:

Sharing or transferring Redemption Codes violates the VitalsourceTerms and Conditions of Use and is a copyright infringement against the book's authors and publisher. Violations of this nature can result in a Bookshelf account suspension, disabling access to the eTextBook(s).

How a to Use a Bulk Redemption Code

Redeeming a VitalSource Redemption Code

You will have been provided with a 12 or 20-character registration code. 

If you have a VitalSource Bookshelf account, you can redeem your VitalSource Redemption Code from your Bookshelf account. If you do not have an account, you can create a Bookshelf account by selecting the following link.

*** Please keep in mind that VitalSource codes are one-time-use and not transferrable or shareable. If you have purchased or been issued multiple codes you will need to distribute these to the individuals who need access, and each individual will need to redeem one code to their own VitalSource account. ***

 

From Online Bookshelf:

From HOME: you will see the option under "Enhance your Experience":  REDEEM CODE

  • Click on the box
  • A pop up will appear for you to enter in the code (and additional codes) 
  • If you have multiple codes, click "add another" link and the option will appear to add a second redemption code. You can continue to click "add another" to create another box for your next code. 

 

Additional Online option: 

From MY LIBRARY: You also have a REDEEM CODE(s) option located under MY LIBRARY (under MY SHELVES):  

  • Once in MY LIBRARY, go to the top right of the screen, next to your Store link will be REDEEM CODE
  • This option will also allow for multiple redemptions by clicking "add another" for additional redemption codes.

 

From a Mac:

The redeem option is on the top right of the screen while in MY LIBRARY. Click on the link, a new pop up box appears where you can again enter you code and / or click link to "Add Multiple Codes"

 

 

From Windows:

The redeem option is located on the top right of the screen in MY LIBRARY. Click on the redeem link. A new pop up will appear to allow you to enter in your redemption code and / or click the link to add "More Codes". 

 

 

 

 

From an Android Device:

On the menu option you will see the Redeem Codes link second from the top. Click on it, a new window appears to redeem your code (enter it there). Click "add more codes" if you have additional redemption codes to redeem to your account.

From an iOS Device:

At this time, we do not have a way to redeem a code on an iOS device; you will need to redeem the code through Bookshelf Online before accessing it in the app.

Standard Return Policy

There are a few important things to keep in mind when returning eTextbook codes purchased from the VitalSource Bulk Orders Store:

  • You have 30 calendar days to return an item from the date you purchased it.
  • You can only return unredeemed codes.
  • You are not returning an eTextbook from one of the publishers in our Return Policy Exemptions list. 

You can only return codes purchased directly from the VitalSource Bulk Order Store.

 

Return Policy Exceptions

Titles purchased from the following publishers will follow the return policies outlined below.

Penguin Random House Return Policy:

  • You may cancel your VitalSource eTextbook purchase and request an immediate refund within 7 days of your initial purchase

  • You have not redeemed the code in a user's account.

HarperCollins Return Policy: 

  • You may cancel your VitalSource eTextbook purchase and request an immediate refund within 2 days of your initial purchase

  • You have not redeemed the code(s) in a user's account.

HarperCollins Christian Return Policy:

  • You may cancel your VitalSource eTextbook purchase and request an immediate refund within 2 days of your initial purchase

  • You have not redeemed the code(s) in a user's account.

Hachette Digital Return Policy:

  • You may cancel your VitalSource eTextbook purchase and request an immediate refund within 3 days of your initial purchase

  • You have not redeemed the code(s) in a user's account.
